"Sports do not build
character. They reveal
it.” John Wooden
"I think sportsmanship
is knowing that it is a
game, that we are only
as a good as our
opponents, and whether
you win or lose, to
always give 100
percent." Sue Wicks
“I am a member of a
team, and I rely on the
team, I defer to it and
sacrifice for it,
because the team, not
the individual, is the
ultimate champion.” Mia
Hamm

2009 was our best season
as of yet. Our club had
the lowest number of
incidents and the fewest
bookings (cards) issued
in our recent history.
While this is good; we
can and will be better
spectators, players and
coaches. Our club’s
culture is to develop
our youth, have fun and
enjoy the sport through
honoring the game.
EYSC requires
that all coaches have
attended PCA and that a
minimum of 2
parents from each team
attend the one of the
parent sessions.
2010 scheduled PCA
sessions are: {Make
plans to attend}
• August 18 Coaches
training (Double Goal
Coach)
• August 30 & September
2 - Parent sessions
PCA sessions are
scheduled from 7-9 pm
and the location is the
Lutheran Church on
Douglas Blvd.
6365 Douglas Blvd.,
Granite Bay, CA
Coaches: Please
also check the coaches
section for additional
classes and training
sessions that you can
utilize to further
improve your techniques
and knowledge of the
game.
Are there topics or
issues that you would
like to see our club
address? Do you have
suggestions on how to
better our program? We
can use your assistance
in growing our programs.
Do you want to get
involved? Please drop us
a note.
We desire for all you
coaches, players,
referees and parents to
inspire sport and
continue to being an
excellent example of the
spirit of the game. We
expect you participate
in an ethical and
sophisticated manner by
rising above the game
and make the effort to
demonstrate/model
behaviors that our
competitors will enjoy
returning to compete
with our teams.
It is EYSC's requirement
that every coach and
assistant coach attends
at least one session of
PCA training and has the
PCA certification card
before the first games
of the season. If you
have lost your card you
will need to retake the
training course. All
training sessions are
open to everyone to
attend.
We hope that you will
find yourself taking
your coaching skills to
the next level and
continue to participate
in other sessions that
the club and PCA offer.
We hope that you will
mentor a new coach and
show them how we do
things here in our club.
This will help us to
increase the knowledge
that we can share with
our growing athletes. We
know that you will find
that the conversations
are stimulating and the
topics relevant to not
only sports but also in
life.

EYSC is committed to the
guidelines of PCA and
looks forward to another
successful competitive
season.

Peter Sabin, PCA
Director. Eureka Youth
Soccer Club (EYSC)
prides itself on its
partnership with the
Positive Coaching
Alliance (PCA).
PCA is a non-profit organization
based at Stanford University
whose mission is "To transform
youth sports so sports transform
youth."
PCA’s Goals are:
• Replace the win at all-cost
model of coaching with the
Double Goal Coach who strives to
win but has a second, more
important, goal of using sports
to teach life lessons.
• Teach Youth Sports
Organizations leaders how to
create an organizational culture
in which Honoring the Game is
the norm.
• Spark and fuel a "social
epidemic" of Positive Coaching
that will sweep this country and
beyond.
Positive coaching can increase
an athlete’s self-esteem and
self-confidence, which results
in more enjoyment from
participating, which causes a
scholar athlete to be more
likely to continue playing.
Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA)
believes the realm of youth
athletics presents a tremendous
opportunity for scholar athletes
to develop life skills that will
serve them well beyond the
playing field.
