Eureka Lightning are CYSA Association Cup Champions

As only the fifth team in EYSC’s 30 year history, the U-12 Eureka Lightning won the title of Association Cup Champions on January 24th. With preliminary wins of 3-0 and 3-0 in Sacramento, the Lightning moved on to the Sweet 16 bracket in Morgan Hill for the second weekend. With an early goal, the Lightning advanced to face the VYSL Thunderbirds United from Vacaville in the quarter finals the following day. With another 1-0 victory in the cold, wet, and muddy conditions, the team advanced to the semi-finals the following weekend in Danville. The semi-final game on Saturday was played against a tough ARYSL Orangevale Norcal Express team. With the game tied 0-0 at the end of regulation and golden-goal overtime periods, penalty kicks were needed to advance the Lightning to the finals. On Sunday, the Lightning returned to face the Sierra Galaxy, another Sacramento based competitive team, for the Cup Championship. Again, with the game going to golden-goal overtime tied at 0-0, the Cup was to be decided by penalty kicks. After just four kicks each, the parents, families, and guests on the sidelines erupted with joy as the Eureka Lightning earned the title of “Association Cup Champions”.

After a Frightening Draw Eureka Wolfpack Takes 4th in Marysville/Yuba "Pumpkin Kick" Tournament

The under-13 select soccer team, Eureka Wolfpack, proudly took home 4th place in the October 24th/25th weekend Pumpkin Kick Tournament held in Marysville / Yuba City. The Halloween-theme tournament was especially scary for the boys because, due to a clerical error, they were placed in a year-higher age division. Their coach, Joe Breault, advised them going in that "we have to play as a team and not as individuals. If we do that we will be alright." They listened, came out kicking, and ran home with 4th place.
