Competitive Program

The Competitive Soccer Program is just like it sounds:  Competitive.  It’s one step up in intensity from our Recreational Program.  The Competitive Program involves a tryout process, a longer season and a higher commitment level than Recreational soccer. Competitive level teams incorporate a volunteer Coaching staff, typically consisting of a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach, as well as a paid professional Trainer to enhance the skill level of the players.

Our Competitive Level Coaches are required to have all the certifications and background scans that the Recreational level Coaches have (CYSA F license, PCA Certification, Live Scan check), plus a CYSA E license at a minimum.  The paid professional Trainers employed by each team must also have a verified background check, with certification and licensing requirements as desired by the individual teams.

Competitive Level teams play in the CYSA Division 1 League and/or US Club Norcal Leagues.  The level of competition offered by the various divisions in the area will be evaluated by each Coach, with teams being registered in the appropriate level for their skill set.   The decisions regarding which league, and which level, will be made after consideration of team skill set, parent commitment, financial requirements, and competition levels available.

Generally, the EYSC Competitive program hosts tryouts in late February or early March.  Practices typically begin in May or June and are two to three times per week.  In addition, Competitive teams will register for tournaments, some of which may be “away” tournaments involving hotel stays over a weekend.  There are a variety of tournaments offered by multiple clubs in the area.  Each team will choose tournaments based on scheduling, and team and parent commitment.  League play is typically in the Fall with regular weekend games beginning in September and ending in November.  Some teams may choose to participate in a Spring league at the discretion of the Coach.  Many teams will also participate in an end-of-league tournament in December or January.
